Based on the 2012 MCAS exam results, three new Massachusetts schools were designated as Level 4 schools:
- The Mattahunt School (Boston); Grades PK-5
- The Henry K. Oliver School (Lawrence); Grades 1 - 8
- The William N. Deberry School (Springfield); Grades K - 5
Under the state's accountability and assistance framework, a district is classified into the level of its lowest performing school. Currently, most districts in the state fall into Levels 1 or 2.
- Level 1: 25% (96 Districts)
- Level 2: 53% (200 Districts)
- Level 3: 19% (71 Districts)
- Level 4: 3% (12 Districts)
- Level 5: 0% (1 District)
At the individual school level, most schools in the state also fall into Levels 1 or 2.
- Level 1: 32% (503 Schools)
- Level 2: 47% (743 Schools)
- Level 3: 19% (298 Schools)
- Level 4: 3% (43 Schools)
- Level 5: 0% (0 Schools)
In the city of Lynn, most schools fall into Levels 3 or 4. This information excludes Lynn's one charter school which falls into the Level 2 category.
- Level 1: 12.5% (3 Schools)
- Level 2: 29.2% (7 Schools)
- Level 3: 50% (12 Schools)
- Level 4: 8.3% (2 Schools)
