The following was forwarded to me by Dolores DiFillipo, Prevention Educator at Revere High School, via Revere Superintendent Dr. Paul Dakin and Revere Police Officer Dave Wilson.
It has come to our attention that there are a dozen or more designer drugs appearing in the party scene. The drugs are not identifiable by normal methods and are frequently altered or re-designed to elude law enforcement. 2-CL is one example of dozens of substances which are being legally imported and distributed as a research chemical. Side effects include the whole range that one would expect from an extremely powerful hallucinogen, add to that psychosis and death. Some of the popular “research chemicals” being consumed include” 2-CL, 2-MEO-Ketamine, 5-APB, 5-IT, 5-MEO-DALT, AKB48, AM-2201, AMT (powder and pellet), B2 M1M, Benzo Fury, Camfetamine, Ethyphenidate, Etizolam, IAP, M&M, MAM-2201, MDAI, Methoxetamine, MPA, MXE, N-E-K and UR-144. Of particular note would be AM-2201 and UR-144, (both are synthetic cannabinoids – similar to THC).
This is a tough situation, hospitals can’t test for most of the substances so overdoses are extremely difficult to treat.
