Lynn Public School District Student Demographics 2015-16

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently published the 2014-15 demographic reports for public school districts in the state. Per the DESE data, there are 15,098 students enrolled in the Lynn Public School district (which does not include those enrolled in charter school) as of October 1, 2015. This is an increase of 227 from October 1, 2014.

Kindergarten enrollment as of October 1, 2015 is down from 2014 with 130 less students enrolled in kindergarten in LPS.




Still, enrollment in LPS overall has been steadily on the rise over the last few school years. The student populations at Lynn Classical, Lynn English and Lynn Tech (combined) is up 2.7% this year compared to school year 2014-15.



From school year 2010-11 to 2015-16, student enrollment in LPS has increased 11.4%.


In terms of the race/ethnicity, the breakdown for the Lynn Public School system as a whole is as follows (the numbers in parentheses represent the percent change from school year 2014-15):

  • African American/Black: 10.1% (-0.6)
  • Asian: 9.1% (-0.1)
  • Hispanic/Latino: 58.2% (+1.8)
  • Native American: 0.3% (0)
  • White: 18.3% (-1.3)
  • Multi-Race, Non-Hispanic: 3.9% (+0.2)

In terms of special populations, LPS is comprised of a significant number of students who speak English as a second language as well as low income students.

  • First Language not English: 54.0% (-0.1)
  • English Language Learner: 19.5% (+0.7)
  • Special Education: 15.4% (0)

Additionally, the Lynn Public School district's student population is 52.9% male and 47.1% female.
